I've been to two weddings with John Taplin as the DJ, my best friend's and now my own. Each of us had different tastes and needs, but both were met perfectly. John went the extra mile every step along the way. He played all of the music we requested and got to know our style well enough to play other songs that fit our style and the style of the location. RJ was good, we had picked some different songs for the end of the night but people were dancing more to other music, so he checked with us a couple of times about the songs and as long as people were having a good time, we were happy with the music selection--it was nice that he checked to see what was most important to us. Planning a wedding on your own and long distance is quite a task. But when it came to our music, we had no concerns. We had a very casual setting, no timelines, no schedules, we wanted the afternoon to flow naturally. Shannon and I had our reception at the Doubletree Hotel in Austin, Texas on May 12th. We had a destination wedding in Negril, Jamaica two weeks prior. This was the first time that either of us have been married (and hopefully the last). Looking back on the whole ordeal (yes I said ordeal) you realize that it's quite a different perspective then when you're a guest at a wedding. What appears to be a perfect reception to your guests is instead a frantic sequence of events in which you try to accomodate everyone, while at the same time performing the typical nuances that everyone expects to see, and getting a bite to eat or a cocktail somewhere in between. I felt like a chicken running around with my head cut off. The one thing that kept it all afloat was RJ. I can't imagine what it would have been like without him.

We had a couple of meetings with RJ before the reception in which we planned the music and schedule for the reception. This included all aspects of the reception: announcing the wedding party; when dinner would be served; first dances; cutting of the cake; toasts; as well as karaoke; The software used by RJ and music4lifedjs makes planning the event very easy. They even have a web interface that allows your guests to put in song requests. The one thing you have to remember about RJ is that looks can be deceiving. When I first met RJ, he looked young to me, which implied inexperience. That was far from the truth. This guy knows his stuff- great music selection, excellent equipment, and extremely personable. He is very patient, especially when dealing with mother-in-laws who have to have things done a certain way. I would definitely reccommend RJ and music4lifedjs for receptions or any kind of celebration- just make sure you have a big enough dance floor, because he can rock the house!
